eatwell is the Food Standards Agency's consumer advice and information site.

It is packed with reliable and practical advice about healthy eating, understanding food labels and how what we eat can affect our health.

The aim of the site is to help you make healthier choices, whether you are choosing what to eat or shopping for food.

On many pages there are links to www.food.gov.uk where you will find more information about particular topics, such as the scientific basis for the advice given.

www.food.gov.uk contains all the latest news and in-depth information from the Food Standards Agency, including Agency policy and research. It also has detailed information and guidance for people working in food-related areas.

About the Food Standards Agency

The Food Standards Agency was set up by an Act of Parliament in 2000 to protect the public's health and consumer interests in relation to food. The FSA's guiding principles are:

Although the FSA is a Government agency, it is independent, which means it works at 'arm's length' from Government because it doesn't report to a specific minister and is free to publish any advice it issues.
