Ingredients

switch to imperial

  • 175g lean minced beef
  • ¼ onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp vegetable oil

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C gas mark 6.

  2. Put the mince into a bowl, add the onion, pepper and mix well. If you want to give your burger a kick add a dash of Worcestershire sauce.

  3. Shape into round burger, making sure it’s nice and compact. If you’re having trouble getting it to stick together, try adding a little beaten egg to the mixture.

  4. Heat the oil in a frying pan and fry the burger for about 3 minutes on each side.

  5. Remove from the pan and put in the preheated oven and cook for another 5 minutes, until all the pink meat has gone.

  6. Serve in a wholemeal bread roll with salad, thick cut chips and tomato sauce.

Food safety tips

Always wash your hands, work surfaces, utensils and chopping boards before you start and after handling raw meat. Keep raw meat away from ready-to-eat foods such as salad, fruit and bread. Always make sure that mince and minced products such as burgers and sausages are thoroughly cooked until no pinkness remains and any juices run clear.
