Quorn™ allergy
Mycoprotein is a type of protein made from a fungus, which is used in the Quorn™ range of meat-free foods. It has been available in the UK since 1986. Some people have reported allergic reactions to mycoprotein, but this is rare – research suggests that about 1 in 100,000 to 200,000 people will react to it.
Because it's made from a fungus, it's possible that some people who react to other fungi or moulds (including when they breathe them in) may also react to mycoprotein.
Quorn™ products are made with a range of ingredients, such as egg white and milk protein, that could cause a reaction in people with an allergy or intolerance. Some Quorn™ products might also contain wheat, barley, soya, mustard or celery. If you have a food allergy or intolerance you should always check the ingredients on a food label to see if it contains the food you need to avoid.
